Brooklyn-by-way-of-Philly kvltists Woe, have released one of 2017's finest black-metal releases. With a never-ending barrage of crafty-yet-grim axe-work (which strikes a perfect balance between dark and despairing and epic and uplifting), the melodic riffs get hoisted to higher and higher peaks via the pristine rhythm section. Each song tells a sweeping story with tons of changes in tempo and mood. Tack on the seamless album cohesion and spot-on production choices and you have an album that encourages deep exploration.
